Why Protect the Scarlet Macaws
The Scarlet Macaw and the abundance of the other wildlife was what inspired a significant amount of people from Red Bank Village to collaborate on one mutual interest. The green hills that can readily be seen in the enter village is what attracts these beautiful birds. From November to February of the following year, they make the journey each day flying over the Maya Mountain Ridge from the Chiquibul to the hillsides in Red Bank village. The hillside turns an iridescent red from the huge flocks of Scarlet Macaw that congregate to feed on the fruits of the pole wood. They also feed on fruits of other trees, but the pole wood is their favourite.
